Level 4 Education and Training

If you would like to become a professional part time teacher or work towards becoming a full time teacher, then the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is for you. This BTEC qualification takes you through a range of mandatory and optional units, covering the role, responsibility and relationships in education and training, to the planning, delivering and assessing of teaching and the development of resources for the purpose of learning. You will also consider how to support learners specific to your area of expertise and techniques that can be applied to enhance and manage the learning environment.

By the end of the course, you will have a set of skills and the qualification to become an independent part-time teacher, having the knowledge and understanding to support others develop themselves. The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training will also enable you to progress onto higher level teaching and training qualifications, including the Level 5 BTEC Diploma in Education and Training.

Additional Information

Location: Work-Based and Self-Study

Duration: 9 – 12 Months

Entry Requirements: A passion for learning and a good level of experience in the field you wish to become a teacher trainer in. 

Employee Progression: You could progress on to the Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Achievement, the Level 4 Certificate in Internal Quality Assurance, a higher level Management and Leadership framework or the higher Level 5 BTEC Diploma in Education and Training.

Course Content

Example Units:

UNIT 2 – Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners

You will develop a knowledge and understanding of agreeing individual learning goals, plan inclusive teaching and learning and ensure internal and external requirements are met.

UNIT 5 – Using Resources for Education and Training

This unit will support you to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to deliver inclusive teaching and learning and evaluate resources used in the process. You will consider the role and function of resources in planning and delivering lessons and develop subject-specific resources that promote equality and diversity and the development of naturally-occurring evidence.


This Level 4 qualification can be funded as a stand-alone through the Advanced Learner Loan and is also available commercially.  In July 2016, the Level 5 BTEC Diploma in Education and Training will also be available for funded support through the 24+ Loan.
