The Challenge

Britvic have four production sites in the UK. Train Together supported their site at Beckton, East London, to develop the management and leadership skills of their team leaders. The programme scope included the following aims:

  • Key learning outcomes identified as performance management, project management, effective delegation and motivation, and dealing with conflict.
  • Programme to be eligible for government funding support
  • Workshops to be delivered on-site at Beckton
  • Workshops to be delivered from 6am to enable both night and day team leaders to participate
  • Programme to have measurable outcomes outlined by senior management team.

The Solution

Train Together developed a multi-workshop approach covering the key learning outcomes outlined above as well as presentation skills, management communication skills and leadership styles. The programme was funded through the Adult Skills Budget in the form of an adult apprenticeship and additional functional training in English, maths and IT was provided by Train Together for the learners. Workshop delivery took place on site between 6am and 10am, once a month, with assignments set to embed the learning outcomes. The management and leadership training programme culminated with each learner delivering a work-based project report and presentation at an event attended by their line managers, senior site managers and the site General Manager. The project-based approach gave the team leaders opportunity to have a direct impact on performance at Beckton and allowed the management team at site to evaluate the learning. Management-&-Leadership
