Level 2 and Level 3 in Playwork

Playwork at Level 2 and Level 3 supports employees whose role is to support play and learning. Learners will consider the principles, nature and value of playwork, the knowledge and understanding required by playworkers to develop and support child and young person relationships and to maintain health, safety and security in the play environment.

Location: Work Based or Self-Study

Duration: 12 – 18 Months

Entry Requirements: Employees should hold a contract of employment and be employed for a minimum of 16hrs per week.

Why is this qualification of value to your employee and the early years setting?

This qualification will help to increase your employees confidence and the skills that are required in breakfast and after school clubs or early years setting.

Course Content

Example Units:

UNIT PW 2-16 – Playwork Principles

This unit covers the principles underpinning playwork practice. Upon completion of this unit, your employee will develop their understanding on the nature and value of play, and how to implement your knowledge within the setting.

UNIT PW 2-19 – Relationships in the Play Environment

This unit covers the knowledge and understanding your employee requires to develop and support relationships with children and young people.

Costs/Funding

This qualification can be fully funded within an Apprenticeship framework. Alternatively, it is available commercially as a stand-alone qualification. At present, Level 2 qualifications are not eligible for Advanced Learner Loans.
