Level 2 in Children and Young People’s Workforce

All nursery staff in the early years play a crucial role in developing and supporting child social skills, emotional development and communication skills. Level 2 Learners will develop their skills, knowledge and understanding on safeguarding, child development, equality, diversity and inclusion, supporting positive behaviour and environments, supporting health and safety and partnership working in services. Employees will also choose from a selection of optional units including child development, SEN and supporting children at meal and snack times.

Location: Work Based

Duration: 12 – 15 Months

Entry Requirements: Employees should hold a contract of employment and be employed for a minimum of 16hrs per week.

Employee Progression: By successfully completing, the employee could progress onto the Level 3 Early Years Educators framework.

Course Content

Example Units:

UNIT SHC 2 – Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings

Learners will develop an understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and how this can be applied in the Early Years.

UNIT TDA 2.7 – Maintain and Support Relationships with Children and Young People

This is a competence based unit and learners will be assessed in the workplace by observing how they communicate with children, and develop and maintain relationships with children.

Costs/Funding

This qualification can be fully funded within an Apprenticeship framework. Alternatively, it is available commercially as a stand-alone qualification. At present, Level 2 qualifications are not eligible for Advanced Learner Loans.
