Strong management of distributive operations is essential for effective delivery of handling and storing of goods in all commercial, industrial, freight facility and stock control environments. Learners completing the Level 3 in Logistics Operations will consider their positive contribution to the business, health, safety and security within their area of the operation and how to optimise the use of resources available. Employees will also consider the improvement of operational performance, effective leadership and the delegation of workload across the team, whilst considering the improvement to transportation, handling, storing and scheduling of goods.

Location: Work Based

Duration: 15 – 18 Months

Entry Requirements: Employees should hold a contract of employment and be employed for a minimum of 16hrs per week.

Employee progression: Successful employees could progress onto higher level Management and Leadership frameworks such as the Level 5 in Supply Chain Management

Course Content

Example Units:

UNIT 5 – Provide Leadership for your Team in Logistics Operations

This unit supports the development of key leadership traits including planning team objectives, motivating and delegating to team members, improving communication and steering the team through difficulties.

UNIT 10 – Arrange the Transportation of Goods using Multiple Transport Modes

The unit considers the identification of modes to support multiple criteria of goods, process development and the management of transporting goods, including outlining the advantages and disadvantages of multimodal transportation and the use of effective documentation to record the processing of goods.


This qualification can be fully funded within an Apprenticeship framework and as a stand-alone qualification through the Advanced Learner Loan. Alternatively, this Level 3 is also available commercially as a stand-alone qualification.
