L2 Teaching Assistant (STLS)
Teaching Assistants can make a significant contribution to overall school performance. As well as directly supporting teaching and learning, Teaching Assistants provide pastoral care, technical support, perform administrative functions and support the school or academy’s vision, values and ethos.
Teaching Assistants learning at Level 2 will be supported to develop their understanding as to their role as part of the wider work of the school and to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding to support teaching and learning, child behaviour and child development.
Location: Work Based
Duration: 12 – 15 Months
Entry Requirements: Employees should hold a contract of employment and be employed for a minimum of 16hrs per week.
Employee progression: Successful employees could progress onto the Level 3 Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
UNIT 1 – Child and Young Person Development
This unit provides the underpinning knowledge and develops understanding of child and young person development. As part of the learning, the teaching assistant will be able to recognise and identify concerns about child and young person development, support the outcomes for Every Child Matters and recognise the effects of transition on development.
UNIT 15 – Prepare and Maintain Learning Environments
This unit supports teaching assistants to demonstrate knowledge and understanding on setting out learning environments and preparing resources that both meet key learning aims and the child and young person’s individual needs. As well as maintaining a good learning environment, learners will consider how health, safety and security play a central role in the development of learning environments and resources.
This qualification can be fully funded within an Apprenticeship framework. Alternatively, it is available commercially as a stand-alone qualification. At present, Level 2 qualifications are not eligible for Advanced Learner Loans.
