L3 in Teaching Assistant (SSTLS)

Experienced Teaching Assistants are required to effectively communicate with children and parents, building positive and professional relationships and to be experts in the field of child behaviour, child development, safeguarding and the promotion of equality and diversity, health and safety and British values. At Train Together, we support our Level 3 learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of SEN, resource creation, child development and supporting of learning, working with colleagues and effectively contributing to the wider work of the school.

Additional Information

Location: Work Based

Duration: 15 – 18 Months

Entry Requirements: You should hold a contract of employment and be employed for a minimum of 16hrs per week.

Personal Progression: You could progress on to learning in Management and Leadership skills.

Course Content

Example Units:

UNIT 4 – Promote Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour

This units supports learners to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to promote children and young people’s positive behaviour. It will require you to demonstrate competence in promoting positive behaviour, managing inappropriate behaviour, dealing with challenging behaviour and contributing to reviews of behaviour and behaviour policies.

UNIT 7 – Support Assessment for Learning

This unit provides the knowledge, understanding and skills you require to support the assessment for learning and demonstrate competence in using assessment strategies. We will support you to review learning strategies and achievements, and, working with the teacher, to review assessment for learning processes and outcomes.


This qualification can be fully funded within an Apprenticeship framework and as a stand-alone qualification through the Advanced Learner Loan. Alternatively, this Level 3 is also available commercially as a stand-alone qualification.
