How this accounting & finance apprenticeship course works

How you’ll learn

Delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, our accounting apprenticeship programme combines live online workshops, one-to-one coaching and a virtual learning environment. You’ll be able to access 45-minute lessons online at any time – and you’ll join face-to-face classes once every three weeks. You’ll learn through exercises, interactive case studies, group discussion and analytical tools.

The modules you’ll study

  • Business Awareness
  • Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
  • Management Accounting Techniques
  • Tax Processes for Businesses

How you’ll be assessed

You’ll complete formative assessments throughout the programme, compiling a portfolio of evidence.

At the end of the accounting apprenticeship you’ll complete a summative end-point assessment – designed to check whether you’ve developed the required skills, knowledge and behaviours. This is conducted by an independent body to make sure it’s impartial. For this course, your end-point assessment organisation is AAT.

In this assessment you’ll complete a synoptic test of the knowledge and skills you’ve gained. You’ll also complete a portfolio and reflective discussion with an independent end-point assessor – to examine your evidence and your learner journey.

Entry requirements

Good keyboarding skills are essential – as well as a good knowledge of Microsoft Office. Achievement of an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting is advantageous but not essential.

You must also meet these requirements:

  • 5 GCSEs (graded A* to C or 9 to 5) or equivalent
  • Level 2 English and Maths
  • Resident in the UK/EEA/EU for the last 3 years

You’ll also need to be able to meet module requirements through a relevant job role.

Career progression

After successfully completing this accountancy programme, you’ll be awarded with the internationally-recognised AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

This prepares you for junior and entry-level accountancy roles. You’ll be able to apply for AAT associate bookkeeping membership and become a professional AAT Bookkeeper (AATQB) – which gives you the option to work as a freelance bookkeeper.

You could also take your training a step further with the Level 4 Professional Accounting/Taxation Technician Apprenticeship – equivalent to the first year of a university degree.

Employment opportunities include:

  • Finance Officer
  • Assistant Accountant
  • Bookkeeper
