Childcare & Early Years Apprenticeship Summary

Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship

Gain an early years qualification while developing your knowledge and skills as an early years practitioner. You’ll engage in care routines for babies and young children. You’ll also plan and deliver activities and promote play in an early years setting.

Off-the-job training

As an apprentice you take 20% of your time at work to complete off-the-job training. It’s an innovative way for businesses to gain a multi-skilled workforce – you’ll be able to bring sector insights and the latest knowledge into your organisation.

We’ll support you to train during work hours and confidently evidence your off-the-job learning, supported and facilitated by your employer. You’ll immediately add value by applying your learning to your role – so it’s beneficial for both you and your employer.

What you’ll learn

On this early years course, you’ll learn about the roles of responsibilities of practitioners. This includes how to ensure the setting and your practice is safe, how to promote equality, diversity and inclusion, how to safeguard and protect children, and how to support each child’s wellbeing, welfare and development.

How you’ll learn

You’ll gain experience with children of different ages – from babies to pre-school. At the same time, you’ll learn about, plan and deliver activity and play sessions. You’ll be mentored by an experienced team member and one of our trainers.

How you’ll be assessed

You’ll complete formative assessments throughout the programme, compiling a portfolio of evidence.

At the end of the apprenticeship you’ll complete a summative end-point assessment – designed to check whether you’ve developed the required skills, knowledge and behaviours. This is conducted by an independent body to make sure it’s impartial. For this course, your end-point assessment organisation is Training Qualification UK (TQUK).

You’ll build a portfolio of evidence, be observed in your workplace and complete assignments. You’ll also complete a knowledge test and professional discussion with an independent end-point assessor – which you’ll have preparation and mock tests for beforehand.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to meet these requirements:

  • Resident in the UK/EEA/EU for the last 3 years
  • Meet module requirements through your employment in a relevant job role

You’ll also need to achieve these separate qualifications before or during the course to complete the programme.

  • Level 1 Award Functional Skills in English and/or Maths

Career progression

After successfully completing this education training programme, you’ll be awarded the Level 2 Diploma in Early Years.
