Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner Apprenticeship

An early years apprenticeship for operational leads and developing managers – here you can develop your advanced skills to develop into a future leader. You’ll focus on creating an inclusive environment to support children to be creative and curious – while increasing your employability as a lead practitioner.

  • Duration – typically 21 to 24 months

Off-the-job training

As an apprentice you take 20% of your time at work to complete off-the-job training. It’s an innovative way for businesses to gain a multi-skilled workforce – you’ll be able to bring sector insights and the latest knowledge into your organisation.

We’ll support you to train during work hours and confidently evidence your off-the-job learning, supported and facilitated by your employer. You’ll immediately add value by applying your learning to your role – so it’s beneficial for both you and your employer.

What you’ll learn

On this advanced early years course you’ll increase your knowledge and deepen your experience. We’ll support you to lead by example, coaching and supporting less experienced practitioners – while promoting children’s emotional wellbeing through healthy and active play. We’ll also help you to strengthen your operational management – from policy development and planning to assessment and safeguarding management.

How you’ll be assessed

You’ll complete formative assessments throughout the programme, compiling a portfolio of evidence.

At the end of the early years apprenticeship you’ll complete a summative end-point assessment – designed to check whether you’ve developed the required knowledge, skills and behaviours. This is conducted by an independent body to make sure it’s impartial. For this course, your end-point assessment organisation is Training Qualifications UK (TQUK).

This includes an observation of practice (with questions) and a professional discussion with an independent end-point assessor – as well as a case study with report, presentation and questions.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to meet these requirements:

  • A level 3 qualification in a subject of your choice
  • Resident in the UK/EEA/EU for the last 3 years
  • Meet module requirements through your employment in a relevant job role

You’ll also need to achieve Level 2 English and Maths Functional Skills before or during the course to complete the programme.
