Training and education within the early years sector is extremely important and whether you are new to the sector or experienced, ongoing development of skills and knowledge is invaluable. Training enables you to keep updated on new research within areas such as, early learning, value of play and teaching strategies and practices.
Early years educator (EYE)
L3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (EYE)
On achievement this will provide you with a licence to be an Early Years practitioner in a range of early years settings.
You will required to be in a work placement in Early Years setting with children aged birth – 5 years, 5-7 years will be knowledge based within the qualification.
There are 23 Mandatory units, these are structured around 3 themes
- Health and well-being
- Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
- Play, development and learning for school readiness
18 months to two years duration
There are a number of suitable qualifications for you to explore –
- Early Years Workforce L3 (EYE) – see above
- L3 Diploma in Children and Young Peoples Workforce, Social Care Pathway – optional units will be chosen in line with job roles/responsibilities.
- L3 Play Work – if providing care for school age children – before/after school and during holidays etc.
L2 & L3 CYPW (Chidren and Young Peoples Workforce)
L2 is suitable for those who are assistants within playgroup/preschools, day nurseries, nursery schools etc. Duration 12 months. Progression on to L3 and EYE.
Social Care Pathway (L3)
Suitable for those working in pastoral care within schools supporting teaching and learning, residential childcare workers, working in the community with families.
Developing skills in assessment and planning with children and young people and promoting their well-being and resilience.
Duration approx. 12 – 18 months.
Learning, Development, and Support Services Pathway (L3) – Suitable for learning mentors.
Developing skills in supporting children and young people in achieving their education potential and making positive changes in their lives.
Optional units within these qualifications are chosen to meet specific job roles/responsibilities.
Duration approx. 12-18 months.
L2/3 Playwork (Certificate/Diploma)
Suitable for those working in breakfast or after-school clubs, play schemes, community workers etc. with school aged children.
Career progression could include holiday representative, play worker, child minder, youth/community worker and play therapist.
Duration 12 – 18 months
L3 Diploma Residential Childcare
This qualification is appropriate for those working in children’s homes, this will develop the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in a residential childcare.
Mandatory and optional units covering a range of areas such as: wellbeing and resilience, positive relationships and attachments, health and safety, sexual exploitation, communication, positive behaviour and positive outcomes.
